The Midnight Express – Friday 25th August 2017

The Midnight Express follows the same 45 mile route as the Green Man Ultra only in reverse (clockwise).

As this race is mainly in the dark, it is mandatory for each competitor to carry a route-loaded GPS device. A GPX file will be made available to competitors prior to the race to take into account the actual race route including last minute diversions that we are aware of. It is also a requirement for each competitor to understand how to obtain their location grid reference from their GPS device in case of an emergency.

Start and finish location: Long Ashton Community Centre.

Time Allowance: The maximum race allowance is 12 hours and will commence at Midnight and complete no later than midday on the Saturday, allowing an overall time of 12 hours. If you are outside this time you will not be classified as a finisher.

Chip-Timing: Dependant on entry numbers, we may use chip-timing to record competitors arrival at check-points.

Food: For Catered entrants, all Checkpoints will carry various food and drink such as sandwiches, 9Bar, GU Gels, Crisps, Peanuts,  Red Bull, Cola, Water & Squash. On completion, a hot breakfast sandwiches (bacon / sausage), coffee and tea will be available at the Community Centre. For Raw entrants only water is available throughout the race and the finish.

Race Entries: Competitors must register on-line prior to the event day. On the day competitors must collect their race numbers and provide their kit bags for inspection at Long Ashton Community Centre, at least one hour before the start of the race. Each participant will be given a race number which must be clearly attached by safety pins. If this is not clearly visible you may be delayed at checkpoints.

Require Kit-List:

  • Checkpoint details and maps (these are free to download from this website)
  • Competitors must be self-sufficient, and carry the following mandatory items:
  • Backpack or equivalent
  • Head Torch with spare batteries
  • Ordnance Survey Maps 155 & 167 (our downloadable maps are fine)
  • Compass or GPS device
  • Whistle
  • Mobile phone
  • Emergency foodpack consisting of a chocolate bar, Mars or similar
  • First Aid Kit

Registration & Entry Fees

Upkeep of the Community Forest Path:
URL donate a portion of the entry fee towards the upkeep of the Community Forest Path. Please ensure that you do not leave any rubbish along the route and you keep all farm gates etc closed after you pass through.

The Green Man Midnight Express entry options:

  • Individual entries are £65.00 per person (catered).
  • Raw individual entries are £55.00 per person (just water provided)

Medals, Trophies and other awards:
All finishers will receive a bespoke Green Man Midnight Express medal and a Tec-Shirt. You will also be recorded in the Honoury Register of Woodwoses and Woodwights and receive a certificate signed by the Gaveller. In addition the following trophies can be awarded:

  • Men’s individual trophy
  • Ladies individual trophy
  • Men’s veteran trophy (55 and over)
  • Ladies veteran trophy (55 and over)

Men’s, Ladies & Veterans winners will receive free entry into next year’s event.

The organisers reserve the right to change or amend any part of the event.
